HOMAG woodWOP 9.0 – The Next Generation of Graphical CNC Programming Software for Woodworking Machines
woodWOP is HOMAG’s graphical CNC programming software for woodworking machines, with a history spanning more than 35 years. The basic principle—workpiece-oriented programming in a graphical environment—has remained consistent since the first version premiered at LIGNA 1991.
Version 9.0, available since May 2025, represents a major leap forward in user experience. The release focuses on an innovative operating concept that enables significantly more graphical interaction. Drag-and-drop functionality, multi-selection, and move functions—combined with intelligent snap points and snap lines—make woodWOP much more intuitive to use.
The new design philosophy, branded “Focused on focus,” means the software supports users in their daily work and helps them concentrate on what matters. The new interface features clean lines and a significantly larger graphics area, with the white background in the graphics and parameter dialogs giving woodWOP 9.0 a modern, fresh look in HOMAG’s proven powerTouch style .
Primary Users
woodWOP 9.0 is designed for CNC programmers, work preparation specialists, machine operators, and joinery professionals in the woodworking and furniture manufacturing industry. It serves professionals who:
-
Program CNC machining operations for woodworking machines directly from a 3D graphical interface
-
Create, edit, and optimize drilling, milling, sawing, and contouring programs
-
Import CAD data from external systems and automatically convert it into woodWOP machining macros
-
Reduce programming time through intuitive drag-and-drop operations and intelligent snapping
-
Standardize and reuse machining components across multiple programs
Key Features & Capabilities
New User Interface and Dark Mode
The new user interface features clean lines and a much larger graphics area. Color gradients and blue components have been removed, giving the software a modern, fresh appearance. Users can now switch woodWOP to Dark Mode, which improves readability and is easier on the eyes for many users .
Favorites Mode
For users who need more space for workpiece graphics, Favorites Mode provides a clear display of the most important parameters for machining macros. A single click activates the classic parameter dialog with all configuration options. The Favorites Mode menu can be individually configured and either pinned to a specific location in the workpiece graphic or moved with selected machining operations .
Users can switch within macro families—for example, converting a vertical drilling into a horizontal drilling with one click, requiring only a few parameter adjustments .
Drag & Drop Contour Programming
Creating contours is significantly faster with drag-and-drop technology. Start points, lines, arcs, chamfers, rounds, and splits can be assigned quickly and easily via drag-and-drop. The drop position becomes the end point of the element, and the subsequent element is automatically inserted, allowing a contour to be entered in a single operation. HOMAG states that contour programming time is reduced by more than 50% .
Drag & Drop of Machining Operations and Layers
Machining operations such as drillings, pockets, or saw cuts can be inserted via drag-and-drop, with the drop position automatically adopted as the insertion point. Contour machining macros like millings can also be dragged onto a contour element. The same applies to layers—dragging onto a workpiece edge easily creates an angled layer for miter joints .
smartSnapping: Intelligent Snap Points and Lines
In addition to classic grid points, woodWOP offers snap points on workpiece edges, CAD elements, contour points, machining operations, and more. Orthogonal and axis-parallel snap lines to these points are also available, with new snap options created at line intersections. Dynamic grids on snap lines facilitate precise distance selection—for example, woodWOP uses a 32 mm grid for drillings
